Register of private interests and extra-judicial activities
The Legal Register Centre (LRC) serves as the controller of the register of private interests and extra-judicial activities. This register contains the information on the private interests and extra-judicial activities of individuals charged with certain public duties.
Purpose of the register
The register of private interests and extra-judicial activities is intended for public use. The purpose of the register is to ensure the general availability of the publicly known private interests and extra-judicial activities of people charged with certain official duties.
The register contains the information on:
- the private interests of judges, expert members of courts, and lay judges; and
- the extra-judicial activity permits granted to judges and referendaries, along with fees in excess of 10,000 euros per year paid for such extra-judicial activities.
From 1 January 2024, the register also contains the information on the private interests of the members of the
- Social Security Appeal Board,
- Accident Appeal Board,
- Pension Appeal Board, and
- Traffic Accident and Patient Injury Board
in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
People serving in the above-mentioned positions are obliged to declare the up-to-date information on their private interests and extra-judicial activities.
Who can view the information in the register?
Anyone can view the public information contained in the register in the register of private interests and extra-judicial activities e-service .
You can also order an official extract from the register of private interests and extra-judicial activities with a free-form application. The extract costs 22 euros, invoiced retrospectively.
Information required in the application:
- name of the person on whom the extract/certificate is being ordered;
- personal identity code of the subject (not mandatory);
- postage information for the extract/certificate;
- billing information and reference number, if required;
- the name and address of the orderer; and
- the telephone number of the orderer (not mandatory).

- Through the Suomi.fi/messages service (Legal Register Centre > Register services).
- By email to [email protected]. We recommend the Ministry of Justice's secure messaging service. Enter your email address into the service and register it. You will then be sent an email link that will take your message securely to its recipient.
- By post to Legal Register Centre/YOR, PO BOX 157, 13101 Hämeenlinna, Finland. Please remember to sign a physical application.

How is the information declared for the register?
Judges enter their information into the register themselves and keep it up to date.
Lay judges and expert members of courts declare their private interests throughthe judicial administration's e-service . They are also responsible for keeping their own information up to date.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health collects the information subject to the notification obligation in its administrative branch and enters them into the register of private interests and extra-judicial activities in a centralised manner.
